With the UK no longer part of EASA, there is scope for the CAA to make changes to the regulations for UK flyers.

One of the most interesting is the simplified ‘sign-off’ which allows a PPL holder to fly a twin engine piston aircraft without the requirement for an twin engine rating.

The requirements are as follows:-

1. The flight requires to have 2 fully qualified PPL holders during the flight. Effectively, 1 for each engine.

2. At least one of the pilots must have been checked out for flying from the right hand seat. (A logbook entry by an instructor is suffice)

3. Only one pilot may claim PIC (Pilot in Command time) during the flight). PIC cannot be changed during the flight.
